Staff explained that PERS Tier 1 members can use accrued sick time toward retirement calculations while other tiers and law-enforcement plans may have different rules: "If you're in PERS 1, you can use it towards retirement calculation," a committee member observed.
Members asked staff to ensure handbook text clearly notes retirement-tier differences and any special rules for law-enforcement plans so employees understand when sick time can contribute to retirement credit. The committee also discussed examples where employees lose large balances when moving between tiers, and asked staff to annotate those transitions in the handbook.
