County Office presents midyear LCAP update and budget overview for juvenile court and community schools

Elise Simmons, who led the midyear Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) presentation, told trustees the midyear check-in allows staff to make adjustments before the June adoption cycle. “I'm happy to be here today to present our midyear LCAP updates,” she said and walked the board through the required annual update, accompanying budget overview and the three-year planning cycle.

Simmons described how metrics are classified as unknown, in progress or known, explained implementation statuses for action items (not implemented, in progress/partially implemented, fully implemented), and presented midyear highlights for juvenile court and community schools, including student-count snapshots and a focus on reducing suspension rates. She noted specific enrollment figures for court and community schools and stressed that stability rates in those settings are much lower than in traditional schools. Trustees asked clarifying questions about how transitional-youth services and foster-liaison training feed into goal 3 and goal 5 work. The presentation concluded with next steps: continuing educational partner feedback, filling unknown metrics (e.g., upcoming surveys) and returning in June with a full LCAP package for adoption.
