Board flags safety hazard at Craig Hill Estates and eyes planting opportunities

The board identified Craig Hill Estates (city parkland) as a good spring planting site for trees and shrubs to stabilize steep, muddy slopes and fill canopy gaps. Chair urged board members to walk the corridor and consider shrubs and trail improvements as part of the larger parks connectivity effort.
Chair additionally flagged two or three drainage ponds with large exposed drainage pipes (4–5 feet) and said the surrounding pits currently lack protection, posing a risk of a child falling about six feet onto rocks. "It's definitely a dangerous structure, at least as far as the drainage is concerned," the chair said, and asked members to inspect the area and consider safety measures linked to planting work.
Members also discussed an Evitts Run bridge project to link Happy Retreat, Craig Hill and other parks; John said the contractor is close to beginning the work and that rock bed locations have been identified for footings, which would help connect trails and make planting and maintenance more accessible.
