The board opened a public hearing on the appointment of a board-appointed personnel commissioner and took public input. Troy Cope, the chief human resources officer, explained the commission's role overseeing classified personnel matters and thanked trustees for selecting the candidate. A public speaker, Shalaq Cabanes, told the board she "highly support[s] and think[s] it's a wonderful fit" and urged approval.
Following the hearing the board moved to appoint the candidate. President Sanchez called for a roll-call vote and the appointment passed unanimously. The board scheduled formal consideration of the appointment on the next agenda item and completed the associated motion that evening.
