The Hartland Township Board on a unanimous roll‑call vote adopted a resolution to place a new five‑year 2.3‑mill fire services proposal on the Aug. 4 primary ballot. Joe Killaney, legal counsel with Clark Hill, told the board: "The estimated revenue based on the proposed tax levy at 2.3 mills for in the 1st year, which is 2026, is, $2,489,835." The resolution directs township officials to finalize ballot language and submit materials to the county clerk.
Killaney said the proposal is a new millage, not a renewal, covering 2026 through 2030 and described the statutory requirements under the Property Tax Act. Board members said the figure was vetted with staff and outside analysis over the past year. Clerk Chofu moved to adopt the resolution, Trustee Petrucci seconded, and the roll call recorded six yes votes with Trustee O'Connell absent; the motion passed and the item will appear on the Aug. 4 ballot. The board noted the county submission deadline discussed during the meeting as May 12.
