The Needham Planning Board voted unanimously Aug. 4 to refer proposed zoning articles on building height and a 0.5‑story floor‑area standard in the SRB district to the Select Board for public hearings ahead of the October 2026 special town meeting.
"I I would, urge that we, would adopt these these, articles, to be sent to the transmitter to the select board," Justin McCullough said during discussion of the SRB items, urging the board to advance the proposals for scheduling. Board members generally agreed the matter should move forward to the Select Board for formal public hearings under M.G.L. Chapter 40A.
After limited additional discussion, the board voted to refer both articles to the Select Board for the purposes of scheduling public hearings. The motion to refer was moved by Arnie and seconded by Justin; roll‑call votes were unanimous.
Board members said the articles have been discussed at prior meetings and that forwarding them to the Select Board will allow the formal hearing process and public participation required by state law. The board gave no additional direction to staff beyond placing the articles for Select Board scheduling.
