Police Chief Shaundra Randolph told the Village Board July 20 about a serious domestic incident on 52nd Street earlier that week: the call came in at 3:37 a.m., and "just before 1:00 p.m., a suspect was in custody," she said. Randolph said the District Attorney's Office was reviewing charges for homicide and reckless injury to a surviving victim, and she emphasized the department was limiting public details and that the incident posed no threat to the general public.
Chief Randolph also described operational details: the deceased victim did not reside at the address, the surviving injured victim did, and the perpetrator did not reside there. She said the department's drone unit was not deployed because officers qualified to operate it were engaged in the investigation; West Allis Police Department lent their drone to assist. Randolph reported the department is at full strength after a recent retirement buyout, noted one parking-enforcement officer (Payton) had left and an application was in process to fill that role, and said two recently hired officers are in field training. She listed upcoming events including a Sept. 13 fundraising event at Lion's Tale benefiting the department community fund, an Aug. 14 "Cop on a Rooftop" fundraiser for Special Olympics, and National Night Out on Aug. 21.
