The board heard that while the city completed 24 education events and participated in Project WET and Water Fest activities, most of that work targeted 3rd- and 4th-grade students because that aligns with Tennessee education standards.
Thompson said he wants to broaden outreach: "A lot of our education is focused young, and that's why I wanna do more of, like, business centered or adult centered... I think that might be something that's more accessible, for each the individual school to in La Verne to maybe be able to do." He proposed written materials, multilingual pamphlets and a "mini Water Fest" that brings activities directly to schools.
Board members pressed for outreach aimed at homeowners and businesses to reduce trash and yard waste flowing into drains. The discussion emphasized education-first approaches, supplemented by enforcement when a point source can be proven.
