Board appoints longtime resident Michael Olive to Community Development Authority

The Village Board voted July 20 to appoint Michael Olive to the West Milwaukee Community Development Authority (WMCDA).
President John Stalewski invited Olive to introduce himself; Olive said he has lived in the village for 15 years and described a background that includes 22 years as an Army Ranger, two decades as a banquet chef, and current work as an assistant pastor and property co-owner. "I just think that everybody working together, we can make it safer," Olive said, explaining his interest in strengthening police-community relations and addressing concerns for the elderly and children.
Trustees discussed expectations for commission members and candidate preparation. Trustee Greenfield said trustees who sponsor candidates should better prepare them before presentations, asking "what is the real job description for the position," and urged sponsors to help reduce the learning curve. Chairperson Craig Schaefer said the CDA relies on retained experts and that commissioners must make informed value judgments based on expert information. The motion to appoint Olive passed by roll call.
