Craven County officials opened a public hearing on a proposal to issue limited-obligation bonds with an aggregate principal amount "not to exceed 25,000,000," said Craig Warren, who introduced the item and described the borrowing as intended to finance capital improvements for governmental, judicial, library, maintenance and social services facilities. Warren told the board there is "no projected increase to the tax rate to fund this debt service on these" bonds.
During the public-comment portion, resident Kelly Muse of 612 Matamores Lane criticized the county's past support for the school system and questioned the trustworthiness of a former school-board member now involved with county projects. Muse said the county has "deferred maintenance with school system for decades worth" and varied allegations about county procurement and vehicle use. The hearing was opened and closed formally; no vote on issuing the bonds occurred at this meeting.
