IT director to centralize software contracts, build internal AI server for village operations

Islamorada’s IT director told the council Aug. 4 that software subscriptions and communications contracts have been centralized under IT for improved cybersecurity oversight and contract management. He said some subscriptions were previously unknown and that the move lets IT inventory software and seek consolidation opportunities.
The IT director also proposed an internal AI server that would run on village infrastructure to allow departments to analyze local data safely: "I'm gonna actually build an AI server that runs internally," he said, describing the effort as a way to increase efficiency rather than to replace employees. Capital funds include Nutanix server upgrades and an AI server allowance; staff said the initiative will be coordinated with department heads and may lead to future staffing or capital requests.
