Claymont board authorizes appeal to Ohio Board of Tax Appeals over 4.2‑mill reallocation

The Claymont City Schools Board of Education on Feb. 9 authorized legal counsel to file an appeal with the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals after the Tuscarawas County Budget Commission did not recognize the district’s April 14, 2025 reallocation of 4.2 mills of inside millage for permanent improvements.
Mrs. Host moved to add the resolution and Ms. Campbell seconded. The resolution states in part: "The Board hereby authorizes legal counsel to file an appeal on its behalf in the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals from the February 9, 2026 decision of the Tuscarawas County Budget Commission … in which the Commission failed to acknowledge the Board’s April 14, 2025 reallocation of 4.2 mills of its inside millage for permanent improvements, unless the Commission takes action on or before March 1, 2026 acknowledging the Board’s April 14, 2025 reallocation of its 4.2 mills of inside millage."
On the roll-call vote the five board members—Mrs. Host, Ms. Campbell, Mrs. Grandison, Mr. Peters and Mrs. Wolf—voted yes; the motion carried 5-0. The board approved the same authorization again under New Business later in the meeting. The action begins a formal appeals process if the county commission does not act by the March 1 deadline.
