APC subcommittee nears finish on data‑center ordinance; staff says no decisions until ordinance complete

The Area Plan Commission’s data‑center subcommittee is preparing a final review: the chair said the group will meet for a seventh session on Aug. 5 to complete roughly six remaining pages of a 37‑page draft ordinance and then present the revisions to the full APC for review before a public hearing.
A commissioner asked whether a private company that had inquired about using an existing Bitcoin facility as a pilot would be addressed in the subcommittee. Staff responded that the APC is not in a position to make decisions about a site until the ordinance is finalized and applicants will have to follow whatever application and approval procedures the new ordinance sets out. “We’re not in a position to make a decision on anything like that at this point till we get our ordinance completed,” staff said. The commission discussed scheduling and noted special meetings may be needed to meet the six‑month timeline the area‑wide zoning ordinance affords for this work.
