District highlights: robotics placements, concerts, job-shadowing and special-ed grants

District staff used the Dec. 15 board meeting to summarize recent student activity and programs. Chris Marana said the ARES robotics teams took fourth and sixth place at a competition hosted at Northern Michigan University and thanked students and Ms. Patselas for the ARES Christmas program. Griffin Lawson described upcoming ARMS band and chorus concerts, the return of an 8th-grade job-shadowing unit, and holiday-themed activities that include door decorating and 3D-printed ornaments.
Special-education director Nate Longton reported on SCI field trips and said Mr. Galvin is working on a grant; Longton also thanked Barb Potts and Elissa Harju from MARESA for additional support. Westwood theatre, band and VIM productions were recognized by Cliff Fossitt; staff praised custodial teams for preparing facilities amid a busy concert schedule.
