Mayor Ward presented the Hampton Distinguished Citizen medal to 400th-anniversary co-chairs Gwen Cummings and Will Moffat in recognition of their leadership in organizing the city's yearlong commemoration.
"Our celebration was successful," said Gwen Cummings, thanking city staff, the school division and the hundreds of volunteers who helped stage events tied to the 400th anniversary. Will Moffat added, "I tell you, we have had a tremendous experience, working together as a committee," and named city employees and volunteers he said were essential to the effort. The council noted several projects produced during the year, including commemorative coins and a commemorative video the city will distribute to committee members.
