Staff seek council feedback on 2026 Redmond zoning code cleanup; planning commission recommended approval

Senior planner Lauren Albert told the committee that staff annually collect minor amendments to the Redmond zoning code — typos, reference fixes and clarifications — and have packaged proposed edits for the 2026 annual code cleanup. The Planning Commission reviewed the package July 22 and recommended approval; staff requested council questions and said they will return to a 2PW meeting on Sept. 1 only if email follow-ups cannot resolve issues, otherwise the package is slated for consent on Sept. 15.
Council members asked specific follow-ups. Council president Stewart thanked staff and asked about a deleted reference to overlay incentives (cited as 21.12.500 in the materials) and noted that two youth advisers have been added to the Planning Commission. Council member Kritzer asked whether the items were substantive or simply clarifications; staff said the cleanup is largely non-substantive and that green-building program changes, if any, will be pursued in a separate process. Council members asked about food-truck hour limits in residential zones (an item staff will follow up on) and whether open-space clarifications will apply retroactively; staff said the changes apply going forward and will confirm whether any prior double-counting occurred.
Staff and council agreed there were two follow-up items to answer by email; if those are resolved the code-cleanup package will appear on the Sept. 15 consent agenda.
