Board accepts 2025 tax settlement; charges Tax Collector with 2026 levy

Tax Administrator Leslie Young presented the county’s 2025 tax settlement and told the Board the Net Levy for FY25 is $60,837,618.67 and the percentage of 2025 taxes collected is 99.28%, tied for the third highest collection rate since 2002.
A motion by Commissioner Tim Mason to accept the Settlement of the 2025 Tax Levy under N.C.G.S. 105-373(3) carried unanimously. Following acceptance, the Board charged the Craven County Tax Collector with collecting the 2026 tax levy per N.C.G.S. 105-321(b). The settlement table provided in the presentation showed Total Original Levy $60,526,728.53, Add: Afterlists $377,698.36, Total Levy $60,904,426.89 and Net Levy after releases/refunds/write-offs $60,837,618.67. Commissioner Mason moved to accept the settlement; Commissioner Mitchell seconded and the motion carried 5-0.
