Council adopts certified tax rate, forgoing truth‑in‑taxation process

The South Weber City Council voted unanimously June 10 to adopt the county‑certified tax rate rather than proceed with a truth‑in‑taxation hearing. City Manager Dave explained final valuation numbers from the county arrived late and the certified rate was about 0.49% lower than the current rate, representing roughly a $6,000 difference.
"The certified tax rate is, less than 0.5 a percent, point 49% off of what our current rate is," the city manager said, adding that with the city's growth the small difference effectively meant holding the rate. A council member moved to adopt Resolution 25 - 17 adopting a proposed certified tax rate of 0.0014342; the council carried the motion by unanimous roll call.
Staff said adopting the certified rate will allow the city to avoid a truth‑in‑taxation process this year; the final budget will be adopted at the next meeting.
