Larry Longmecker, Community Development Director, updated the council on pending commercial applications and new businesses coming to Mission Viejo.
Longmecker said the Planning and Transportation Commission approved a new Costco fueling facility at the freeway center previously occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond. "It is the first of its kind for Costco, and it is also the largest fueling facility that Costco will be building with 40 pumps," he said, describing four rows of stations (five pumps deep, eight travel lanes). He added the proposal is for a fueling station only at the moment, with no warehouse and currently no car wash.
Longmecker also described a proposed 50,000-square-foot, four-building addition to the Shops at Mission Viejo with an open-air promenade and a planned 6-story, 170,000-square-foot Tower 3 expansion at Providence Mission Hospital that includes a remodeled emergency department and a 3-acre park area. Councilmembers asked follow-up questions about timing, EV chargers, temporary uses such as a roller rink and tenant sequencing; Longmecker said application timetables would be provided as they become available.
