Deputy Director Michael Thompson provided budget context, distinguishing the revenue the clerk collects from the clerk's operating fee and the commission's appropriation for payroll.
"The amount of revenue that the county clerk collects ... is budgeted at $13,000,000 on an annual basis," Thompson said. He explained that the clerk's fee revenue is used to operate the office while the county appropriates roughly $6,000,000 to support payroll and other expenditures.
Thompson said technology and unavoidable contractual or statutory increases will be considered in FY26 and offered to work with the clerk's office and commissioners to evaluate discretionary requests. He also noted the county is live on a new EPM/ERP system and will present timing and projections for the penny and tax-roll impacts in March.
Commissioners asked for the detailed position counts and distribution of budget lines; Thompson agreed to provide those numbers in subsequent meetings.
