Committee approves 49% MWBE goal for AED maintenance and monitoring

Ernestine Small, Shelby County Health Department AED coordinator, explained monitoring needs and told the committee, “We also ask for remote monitoring.” Staff said about 125 AEDs are distributed across county buildings and that a physical inspection plus software monitoring is the most reliable way to track readiness. Committee members and EOC discussed whether vendors require certifications to perform checks; staff said no special certification is required beyond CPR training for personnel performing checks.
EOC noted the 49% figure is the maximum MWBE participation shown on the form and said the scope includes record-keeping and monthly observations that many local firms could perform; the committee moved and approved the 49% subcontracting goal.
