Committee removes auto body repairs item after finding no MWBE vendors in database

The committee debated an auto body repairs item then approved a motion to remove it from the agenda after staff said the county database has no MWBE vendors able to provide the full range of services.
Mike Beatridge, planning administrator for the sheriff’s office, described the current practice: “So we currently use about 4 or 5 different body shops,” explaining that different shops specialize in tasks such as aluminum welding, painting or frame pulling and smaller shops lack expensive equipment. Committee members raised concerns that no single MWBE could meet every requirement and urged staff to recruit or register more local firms so future procurements offer a competitive pool.
The chair said the body could either set a 0% goal or withdraw the item; the committee moved to remove the item and the motion carried.
