Shelby County sets 10% MWBE goal for jail fiduciary services

The MWBE Goal Setting Committee voted to adopt a 10% MWBE goal for fiduciary services at the Shelby County Jail after a presentation from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
Alicia Lindsey, Chief Administrative Officer for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, told the committee the contract would likely fund a software-and-service vendor “that will keep track of the monies that individuals have on their possessions, in their possession when they arrive at the jail.” Lindsey said the county is preparing an RFP and cannot move forward until the committee approves the item.
Commissioners asked about the incumbent arrangement. Lindsey said Aramark previously provided fiduciary services and that the county had exercised available renewals; staff said the new procurement would require issuing a new RFP. The committee noted the statutory requirement that at least three MWBE firms be available to set a goal; EOC recommended a 10% participation rate based on the available firms and scope of services. After discussion the committee voted and the item carried.
