DDA approves $7,260 match for $32,740 SEMCOG planning grant for Primark block

The Garden City DDA approved providing a local match to accept a SEMCOG planning grant to study and plan redevelopment for the block that includes the former Primark/Kmart site.
Staff said the grant provides $32,740 and requires a local match of $7,260, creating a roughly $40,000 project fund. The work would fund a site survey, convene property owners, and produce a redevelopment plan and cost estimates to inform options ranging from bonding to special assessment districts. McKenna & Associates, the city’s planning contractor, is expected to carry out the grant work.
“Part of the grant that I put together was let's get a survey over there and also start a process of getting a redevelopment plan put together,” staff said. The board voted to approve the DDA contribution toward the match and directed staff to move forward with the SEMCOG agreement and the survey work.
