Council adopts Street Tree Selection Guide to standardize planting on new development

Adam Olsen and planning staff introduced a new Street Tree Selection Guide created with assistance from MHTN Architects. The guide provides design guidance, establishment and care practices, and recommended species lists for small (3–5 ft), typical (5–8 ft) and large (8+ ft) park strips, including pictures and mature height/width information.
Olsen said the guide allows flexibility and that staff presented it as a resolution rather than an ordinance for that reason. Garrett Wilcox clarified the guide will be mandatory for new development and not mandatory for private property owners. Council Member Heidi Robinson moved to approve Resolution No. 2025‑R‑11 and the motion passed unanimously.
