The Garden City DDA voted to award an alley repaving and storm‑drain extension contract to JB Contractors after receiving six bids for the work behind downtown businesses including Fatma’s Bakery and Café Europe.
Staff said the project includes cutting through a parking lot to extend an existing storm drain, replacing roughly 4,800 square feet of pavement with 8‑inch concrete and resetting the drain to grade to correct sheet‑flow problems. The recommended contract amount discussed in the meeting was about $83,000, within an estimated budget range staff had set earlier this year.
Trustees asked about duration (staff: about two weeks to a few weeks, adding time compared with last year’s alley job), quantities and the concrete depth. “It is going to be 8 inch concrete there,” staff said during the discussion. The board moved to award the contract and the motion carried with no recorded opposition.
