"Our mission statement is to ensure the accuracy of Shelby County properties and land records and to preserve their continuity," Brooks said in opening remarks.
Brooks and Cheryl Floyd, CAO for the Register's Office, described strain in the Archives Department: three technicians and limited temporary help process a growing backlog from a 30,000-square-foot archives facility. They requested two additional full-time positions (one archives-deeds technician and one senior deeds processing clerk) and estimated a combined personnel and PCB request of roughly $213,000; Floyd said the senior clerk would stabilise training and cash-flow operations handled by the deeds-processing team.
Commissioners recommended recruiting volunteer help (for example, retired teachers) and discussed whether state-level archival services or enterprise content management could help. Brooks said the county's Enterprise Content Management subcommittee is exploring options and that any transfer of records or new retention positions would be addressed in follow-up recommendations.
