Consultant proposes multiuse path on new bridge to connect regional trail

Consultants told the board they plan to include a multiuse path on the replacement bridge to improve safety and extend regional trail connections. "This would actually add a path attached to the bridge..." the consultant said, noting the PPRTA study recommends a 10-foot-wide trail but that narrower alternatives (6 feet) remain possible.
The idea is to attach the path to the new bridge rather than build a separate pedestrian-only crossing, which staff said would better integrate the Discovery Trail and provide a safer crossing for cyclists and pedestrians. Design width, alignment and ramping remain conceptual; trustees asked that surveys and right-of-way work be completed during the design phase and noted potential impacts to adjacent private property.
