Several residents used the public-comment period to praise recent council actions and raise operational concerns. Doreen Carey of Gary Advocates for Responsible Development thanked the council for passing a Green Steel resolution, saying it "will make the air cleaner and the mill more competitive in the future." Another resident representing the Northwest Indiana Medicare for All Committee thanked the council for supporting a Medicare-for-All resolution and noted press coverage.
Separate public comments raised sanitation and safety issues. Mr. Vessel said he was "a little bit disturbed by the process of this waste pickup, garbage collection, and recycling," asking for written documentation on bin costs and collection procedures and warning about hazards when bins must be moved from steep front yards. City administration responded that staff will assess individual situations and make adjustments for residents on steep hills, and encouraged residents to call the city for assistance.
