During reports and engineering updates Mayor Dixon told the commission the city is working to comply with a state mandate to replace lead and galvanized water services by 2030 and estimated the number of services needing replacement exceeds 6,000. "We have to do it... I think it's over 6,000," Dixon said when describing the scope of the required replacements.
Dixon said the city is exploring funding options and noted, "Looks like we can get about 16,000,000, for the, for the replacement," referring to potential financing and grant sources; staff signaled they are assessing iBank and other funding mechanisms to meet the mandate. The mayor framed the program as mandatory and said the city will pursue available state and federal funds to cover replacement costs.
