District student survey: 42% high‑school response, bathrooms flagged as top safety concern

The presenters told the Safety & Security Committee that 82% of respondents reported generally feeling safe at school and that most students said they would seek help when needed. On measures of help-seeking, 78% said they were likely to report safety concerns to family, friends or adults outside school while 64% said they would report to adults within the school.
Presenters highlighted areas for improvement identified by students: bathroom safety (46% identified bathrooms as the area most in need of improvement), stronger staff monitoring during transitions and locked external doors. The team also reported students suggested additional measures such as more frequent lockdown drills, additional cameras, weapon/bag-screening technology and hiring more SROs. Dr. Pablo said demographic questions were intentionally omitted in this first administration to encourage candid responses but that the team could add disaggregation and school-level breakdowns in future surveys.
