Board of Health: unusual disease inquiries, evacuation drill and nearly 700 flu shots reported

At the meeting a supervisor summarized recent Board of Health activity, saying staff have seen increased disease investigations involving illnesses beyond routine cold and flu patterns and referenced a possible Legionnaires instance. The board also conducted an evacuation drill to move third-graders to a reunification site at Vets Auditorium and identified procedural strengths and weaknesses.
"They have just under 700 took advantage of that service," the supervisor said of the county flu clinics, and officials noted walk-ins remain welcome. The supervisor also reported increased passport activity in October and that well-rehab grants totaling $17,800 were awarded to county property owners this year.
Public-health staff said they will continue to monitor disease trends and make adjustments to emergency procedures based on drill findings.
