County conservation: Prairie Creek disc-golf work underway, officials eye October opening

Nate, a county conservation staff member, told the Jackson County Board of Supervisors that contractors began installing baskets, pads and doing earthwork at Prairie Creek this week and that bridge placement is likely next month. “Well, we're the goal is the end of this year,” Nate said when asked about the schedule, and he estimated much of the trail work could be substantially complete by October while minor seating and finishing touches might follow.
Supervisors and Nate discussed ongoing maintenance and mowing needs, with Nate saying the county will likely assign a seasonal worker to Prairie Creek and exploring whether fundraising by disc-golf users could support contracted maintenance. Board members urged caution on volunteer mowing and suggested that any volunteers be covered by waivers and receive basic training to avoid safety and liability problems. Nate also said the county might reduce planned costly features, such as $20,000 railroad-tie steps, if alternative grading will be adequate and less maintenance-intensive.
