Fire Warden Allen Adams asked the Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners to extend existing county fire restrictions, citing “extreme” fuel moisture conditions and vegetation exhibiting extreme fire behavior. Adams noted two recent grass fires east of Point of Rocks that together burned less than two acres and argued remaining aligned with neighboring counties and agencies was prudent.
The commission approved the extension through Sept. 4, 2026, by unanimous vote. Chair opened the motion and Commissioner Jones moved with a second; no commissioners opposed. The board will revisit the restriction at its next regular meeting and earlier if conditions change.
