A public-works speaker provided a round of operational updates: an emergency screw pump costing about $16,000 has been installed and is functioning, and the department plans to budget next year for a second similar pump to avoid emergency purchases. "We finally get that installed," the speaker said.
Staff are repainting six pump houses (one done first near Wilson Lake for the blueberry festival), raising manholes prior to town paving, and reported that a plugged sewer line traced to a tenant dumping cat litter will be addressed with the landlord. The department also installed a new 2-inch master meter for the North Jay Water District to improve metering accuracy, repainted roughly 137 hydrants, added a master meter and valve at the Sunny Day trailer park entrance to reduce winter damage, and replaced a 500-foot Tyler Street cast-iron line with CTS plastic in-house.
