Parent asks board to expand dual enrollment to middle-school homeschoolers

Mills said his homeschooled children have individualized learning plans and that the family was told a policy prohibits dual enrollment for younger students. He cited "policy 36 20" online as allowing homeschooled students to play interscholastic athletics if they are dually enrolled in public school at the high-school level, and he asked the board to remove the high-school-only language so younger students could participate.
Mills also argued the district would gain additional per-pupil funding by counting the student as partly enrolled and suggested the arrangement would be a "win-win" for the family and the school. He asked the district to communicate clearly with families and asked his district representative (Miss Russell) to follow up.
Board staff did not adopt immediate policy changes at the meeting; staff and trustees acknowledged the request and pointed to current policy and handbook references and to the process for policy review.
