District will replace i-Ready with Renaissance STAR for K–8 assessments

Mister Perry, the district's academic leader, told trustees the district will stop using i-Ready and will instead administer Renaissance STAR (STAR) as the universal screener and progress-monitoring tool for K'8 reading and math. He said STAR assessments take about 20'30 minutes, are computer adaptive and allow secure, locked-browser administration.
"We are moving to Renaissance, for our STAR assessments," Perry said, adding the change reduces time out of instruction and represented significant cost savings. He said the first assessment window will open the week of Aug. 17 and noted STAR is an approved alternate assessment for Read to Achieve.
Trustees and staff discussed fidelity of implementation, professional development provided at convocation and technical safeguards to prevent students from using other browser windows during testing. Perry said MTSS teams and professional learning communities will support teachers in using the new data for instruction and quick progress monitoring.
