The Health & Welfare Committee voted to advance Senate Bill 18-05, which would raise TennCare MCO reimbursement for ground-based ambulance services from 67.5% of the Medicare rate to 110%.
Sponsor Sen. Bailey said the change is intended to shore up rural ambulance services that often operate at an annual loss. "Ambulance services are essential to our communities as we all know," the sponsor told the committee, noting that many county-run EMS services struggle financially.
The committee moved the bill to finance after a brief discussion and a roll-call vote. The measure will next be considered by the finance committee for fiscal review and appropriation implications.
