Santa Ynez Valley board honors student athletes and students of the month

The Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District superintendent used the April 15 meeting to honor multiple students for athletic, academic and community achievements. Superintendent remarks highlighted Brianna Coles first-place finish at the Tri County Invitational Swim and Dive Meet and a new school record of 410.55 points, and noted the boys volleyball teams strong season.
"She crushed a school record that was set in 1997 by scoring 410.55 points," the superintendent said when recognizing Brianna. The board also honored Santino Alvaro, a two-time CIF championship wrestler who has committed to Southern Oregon University; Gael Torres, the Edward Jones April student of the month with a 4.6 GPA and multiple AP courses and concurrent-enrollment credits; and Nico Duran, the Elks Club student of the month, recognized for CTE achievements and plans to attend Allan Hancock College for welding. The superintendent said photos would be taken after the meeting and thanked staff and community partners.
