Garland police liaison warns seniors about utility-entry scam

Marler warned that scammers have targeted seniors by posing as utility workers who ask residents to step outside and show property lines, leaving doors unlocked while an accomplice enters. "So just make sure, if anyone is coming to your door and asking you to step out, kind of verify, do they have a badge, a lanyard? Do they have a truck that has the logo on it?" she said, and advised residents to call police if they suspect fraud. Marler offered to verify suspicious vendor activity when requested and left her contact cards for the commission.
