The Defiance City Council voted to reconvene a previously continued special meeting on Aug. 18 at 5:00 p.m. at the Defiance City Auditorium so residents have more time to comment on proposed changes related to data centers.
The Chair described the items planned for the reconvened meeting: an ordinance to establish a zoning text amendment defining data-center uses and classifications, and a second ordinance proposing a 12-month pause on the review and approval of any data-center application or site plan within city limits. After a motion and second, council members present approved the reconvening by roll-call vote.
Council members said the additional session will allow more public participation and time for staff presentations and questions. The mayor and staff emphasized that the Aug. 18 meeting will include a staff PowerPoint summarizing prior planning commission work and proposed code changes. The reconvened meeting is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.; organizers said a public-comment period will follow a brief presentation.
