Residents and council express alarm after planned curtailment of Sound Transit route 574

James Dunlop told the council the change will eliminate a direct Lakewood departure, adding an "extra 0.5 an hour" to trips such as travel to Tacoma Dome and the airport and forcing riders to transfer. "The journey from Lakewood to Tacoma Dome, which used to take 0.5 an hour, is now going to take, I think, an hour and even longer," he said.
Council members acknowledged the service loss as a significant local workforce and connectivity issue. Council member Lindholm called the loss "a huge loss to the community" and urged further discussion. Council member Branstetter said previous efforts to raise the route with Sound Transit had not yielded results and recommended the city press for answers. The council discussed drafting outreach to Sound Transit and Pierce Transit to clarify scheduling and to request preservation of the Lakewood link.
