Town staff asked the council to approve pursuing a Smart Scale grant for the 21st Street shared-use path (phase 2), a pedestrian/bicycle project linking Suzanne Kane Nature Preserve to the W&OD Trail. Jessica Keller said a public hearing on an earlier segment had received no negative feedback and that the final application for phase 2 is due Aug. 3. Council unanimously authorized staff to proceed with the full application process and to authorize the town manager to execute applications and administration agreements if funding is approved.
The project is intended to improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity and was previously advanced with a prior phase that ran from Hearse Road to the Suzanne Kane preserve. Councilors emphasized timely submission and coordination with the National Capital Region planning board where required.
