Consultants presented three design concepts for the new library addition and walked the committee through site massing, facade options, program adjacencies and a proposed roof plaza.
"What we're calling option A..." consultant Christopher explained, describing a glass band interrupted by two large gable elements and laminated wood members used as a screening aesthetic. He later summarized cost differences between facade approaches: "glass or metal panel, just in terms of the price to install that as an exterior wall, is about 2.5 times as expensive as masonry in today's market." The team said it will provide square-footage cost breakdowns to help the committee weigh trade-offs.
Concept B was presented as a more masonry-led, economical option with vertical glass bands and earth-tone materials to align with the existing church. Concept C was described as a compromise between the two, with punched masonry openings at the upper floor and a projecting glass lower level for the children's area. Consultants also showed options for preserving an existing plaza tree, adding a sunken courtyard for daylight to rear spaces, and potential solar arrays on flat roof areas.
