Commissioners approve two additional school resource officers, school board to reimburse FY2026 costs

A representative of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office told commissioners the updated memorandum of understanding with Calvert County Public Schools adds two school resource officers to be hired by the sheriff and reimbursed by the school board. "To this end, the updated MOU with the Calvert County Board of Education includes 2 additional school resource officers to be hired by the Calvert County Sheriff's Office and reimbursed by the Calvert County School Board of Education," the representative said.
Staff presented an estimated FY2026 fiscal impact of approximately $207,167.03 and gave a line-item breakdown during the presentation. The memo noted salary and benefit components alongside associated deputy costs; staff said vehicle replacement and add-on costs were not included in the FY2026 figure. After brief remarks about SROs’ mentoring and school engagement roles, a commissioner moved and a second carried the motion to approve the two additional SRO positions, and the board approved the MOU update by voice vote. The board directed that the positions be phased in with costs reimbursed by the school board.
