Resident urges Mission Viejo to bar ICE raids; council requests briefing from police

A resident, Kristen Wilcox, asked the council and Captain Jason Ibith not to allow ICE raids in Mission Viejo and to consider declaring the city a sanctuary jurisdiction.
"Do not allow ICE raids in our city," Wilcox said, arguing that ICE uses unconstitutional tactics and that allowing ICE operations in the city "endangers all of our residents" beyond those who are undocumented. She asked the city to require ICE to show judicial warrants and to make arrests at the sheriff's station rather than in the community.
Council member Rosa Vasquez responded later in the meeting by requesting a future briefing from the city police chief about ICE operations, the instructions given to local officers, and whether policy changes are necessary to reduce the risk of misidentification or constitutional violations. Vasquez said the topic is personal for many residents and asked for the information to be presented at an upcoming meeting so the council can consider possible policy or procedural responses.
