Council hears 'Grand Prairie Epicenter' comprehensive-plan update and public outreach results

Sean Jackson, Planning and Development Director, told the council, "This is a comprehensive plan update to our 2018 comprehensive plan, which was the citywide comprehensive plan." He outlined the project’s study area boundaries and said the drafting began in October after stakeholder input collected over a year of engagement.
Jackson summarized outreach activity and data points: the outreach included tabling at National Night Out and Main Street Fest, an October open house, and a March 4 virtual session; staff posted a project website with a survey. "We got 43 net contributions, 4,700 website views," Jackson said. He also presented a data snapshot showing about "2,000,000 square feet of out of 4,000,000 total growth in Grand Prairie since 2015" in the epicenter area and noted a population forecast described in the presentation as "point 68% per year" for the epicenter area over the next five years.
Jackson told council the draft was finalized in early May, that the plan went to the CCDC and was recommended by Planning & Zoning on May 26, and that the item appears later on the council agenda for a public hearing and possible adoption.
