Grand Prairie officials say Liberty Bell restoration is finished; reinstallation planned

Claudia Garibay, Grand Prairie’s Marketing and Communications Director, told the council, "I'm happy to announce that the restoration process has completed and the bell is back here at City Hall." She said the bell will be reinstalled on the City Hall campus next week and that staff are planning a public commemoration once fencing and safety measures are cleared.
A video presented at the meeting traced the Liberty Bell replica’s origins and recent work. "For over 50 years, Grand Prairie's Liberty Bell has been a symbol of history, freedom, and unity," the narrator said, noting the replica was a community project sponsored in 1972 by the Texas Bluebonnet chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, dedicated in 1976, and that a time capsule from the 1976 dedication was opened in 2000; salvageable contents are on display at the Grand Prairie Historical Museum, 1516 West Main Street.
Garibay described restoration work on the bell’s wooden yoke and hardware, and said a new bronze removable clapper is being installed and protected with high-quality wax. She said the bell will be reinstalled under a new overhead shade structure just south of City Hall and that staff will schedule a ribbon-cutting/community event after receiving the green light on safety and fencing removal.
