SANTA MONICA — During general public comment, several speakers praised the STATS proposal and urged the board to commit stable funding and oversight for small-impact programs. Special education teacher Peggy O’Meara described the high cost of out-of-district placements and urged sustained district investment in programs that keep children in their community.
Nikki Kohlhoff delivered an extended public comment focused on athletics fundraising and governance. Kohlhoff called for the board to agendize SIMSA, a proposed athletics nonprofit, to require independent oversight of athletic funds, to adopt a gender-equitable nonprofit policy, and to investigate alleged nepotism and violations of ASB and CIF rules. She provided examples she said indicated a lack of centralized tracking for sports fundraising and alleged inconsistent application of approvals for boosters and fund handling. Kohlhoff told the board she has requested agendizing the topic and said prior closed-session items had not produced the requested action.
The board received the comments; the meeting moved on after the public comment period concluded.
