County transportation staff told commissioners the acting Maryland Department of Transportation secretary will visit Calvert County on Sept. 30 for the Consolidated Transportation Program (CTP) tour and urged elected officials to raise specific local priorities during that visit.
Transportation planner Jessica Catano told the board the visit provides an opportunity for commissioners to press for stalled requests and to secure commitments because when the secretary hears concerns in person “they have a team of people that have to respond.” Catano asked the board to highlight projects including a crosswalk request at Shirley Lane and a Dunkirk crosswalk, Purple Heart signage, and the county’s effort to expand the Calvert-Saint Mary’s Metropolitan Planning Organization to access federal funds.
Director of Public Works Jared Cosgrove said some sidewalk work tied to a new shopping center was partially completed but not fully connected and noted the state sometimes declines sidewalk requirements in development reviews. Catano and Cosgrove recommended commissioners prepare a prioritized list of projects to present when the MDOT delegation visits, and staff said they will follow up to provide background materials before Sept. 30.
